Correlation between attending class and marks?

Now this really is not a study of any sort but merely an observation I have began to notice over the year.
Going to class makes a difference on the transcript. I have no doubt for myself this is working. Also I have had the opportunity to live with/ have lived with/ lived around a very wide variety of people. It does seem to be evident that the people who attend class on a regular basis do much better. In fact everyone that I know that has succeeded with great marks rarely miss a class. Those who never go, are at the back of the herd.
Unfortunately there are always exceptions, one being a girl I know who hardly misses classes and barely is getting the requirements to stay in the program. For her though, she hates school and really is not too efficient at doing work and studying. What I have learned from this situation is that less is more. There are way too many distractions going on for there, I wish the best for her though.
For myself, I am rolling on 100% attendance. It is much easier to do now that science classes are not involved, 26 hours of class to a now 16, makes a world of difference. Plus I absolutely love what I am learning, so I hope I’m on a good course.
One thing that really has amazed me this year is the amount of hints teachers will give out in the middle of lecture. Some more evident than others of course but none the less small keys to success.
I have had quite a bit of support on here even though it was not the goal but a real benefit to have so thank you. I am on the home stretch with finals in sight with all my term work complete. It is nice to have a breath of fresh air before taking a dive back into the books.
Moral of the story: GO TO CLASS
It all depends. Some professors read stuff straight from their slides. There’s no reason to waste time going to their classes.
You are right, it does depend on a lot of things. In general this is what I have noticed though.
Going to those classes is a waste for sure but only if the initative is taken to keep up in the work. For myself I still go to the classes because it keeps me on track for what we are learning, plus tuition is a fortune so I feel better about the situation then sleeping lol
I used to think it really varied as well, but I’m finding that going to class has a lot of peripheral benefits besides just directly informing you of things not included in book learning. What you read often can seem nebulous and cause a “huh…wtf was that…” response if it was really long and oacked with too much in a small space. Going to lecture can show you a few different things:
a. application of the theory
b. theory of the application
c. the real “meat”/clarification behind all the words in the book
d. a chance to field questions
e. a chance to questions from your peers that you might not have thought about
just remember to stay awake haha
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I really like how you pointed out the questions from others, I enjoy those good questions.
The real life examples given by the teachers are always nice and assuring that you are learning something worth while.
